Facts About Raw Honey

Raw, Pure, and Unfiltered:bRaw, unfiltered honey is never heated above hive temperature or subjected to processing. This retains honey's healthful properties, including enzymes, antioxidants, bioflavanoids, and bee pollen.

Crystallization of raw honey: All raw honeys will crystallize, given enough time. Crystallization is a natural process, and does not detract in any way from the quality of the honey. In fact seeing crystals is visual proof that the honey is raw, and many health-conscious consumers look for a bit of crystallization in the jar. Zambezi Organic Forest Honey is a raw tropical forest honey, with a slightly higher moisture content, so it tends to crystallize more slowly. Most people know that placing the jar in warm water will re-liquify the raw honey.

  • RAW is the most important quality in a honey: more important than 'local,' more important than 'organic.' Raw is so important because only Raw honey contains health-promoting properties like antioxidants, enzymes, bee pollen, etc
  • Generally, the darker the honey, the stronger the antioxidant properties it has
  • Raw forest honey has a higher antioxidant potential than most wildflower honeys do
  • Raw honey has powerful anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties
  • Raw honey contains active natural enzymes
  • Raw honey has inherent anti-fungal properties
  • Raw honey, with active antioxidants, helps treat allergies by promoting a strong immune system
  • Raw honey also contains vitamins and minerals that can support a healthy lifestyle
  • Make raw, organic, forest honey your choice health! - Always look for the word "raw" on the label, and only buy raw, unfiltered honey. (If it doesn't say "raw" on the label, then honey's health-promoting properties have been destroyed by the high heat & processing of conventional honey)
Raw Zambezi Organic Forest Honey contains bioflavanoids from tropical forest plants. Bioflavanoids are found only in certain plants, and are known for their antioxidant activities. They can alter the body's immune response to allergens, toxins, and viruses. Bioflavanoids act like powerful antioxidants, with anti-cancer, anti-allergic, anti-microbial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Raw & Healthy: Zambezi Organic Forest Honey is bottled raw and unfiltered to retain natural enzymes, antioxidants, bioflavanoids, and bee pollen. Most commercial honeys have been force-filtered to remove pollen, heating it up to around 180 degrees F in the process, which destroys these healthful properties. Zambezi Organic Honey is minimally processed: first it is centrifuged to separate the raw honey from the wax. Then it is run through cheesecloth to catch any remaining bits of wax. We adhere to strict organic standards at all times.

Traditional Uses of Zambian Honey: Zambians traditionally use raw forest honey to speed the healing of wounds or burns, to increase libido and fertiility, as a remedy for diarrhea, and as a nursing salve. Zambians also eat raw honey as a regular part of their diet, or brew a traditional honey wine. In the Western world, raw honey is routinely used to aid digestion; to boost the immune system, especially during allergy season or at the onset of a cold; as a sore throat gargle; and as a natural, homeopathic treatment for a variety of ailments such as insomnia, resporatory problems, cataracts, rosacia, etc.

ALLERGIES & "LOCAL HONEY" MYTH:

Q. Is it true I should to eat local honey to help with my allergies?
A. This is a myth. Local honey is good for you because it's usually raw. All raw honey contains antioxidants, which have been shown to have anti-allergic properties. Forest honey contains higher levels of antioxidants than local, wildflower honey does. In addition, forest honey contains bioflavanoids, which are plant compounds similar to antioxidants, but with stronger anti-allergic, anti-cancer, and anti-septic properties than antioxidants. Raw forest honey is great at fighting allergies!

Q. Isn't it the pollen in local honey that makes it good for my allergies?
A. This is also a myth. The pollen you are allergic to is from wind-pollinated plants, such as grasses, ragweed, etc. That's not the same pollen you find in honey. Honey contains sticky pollen from plants that are pollinated by insects, not by the wind. Sticky pollen in honey is not the same wind-driven pollen that causes most allergies. Raw honey is good for people with allergies, because of the antioxidants it contains. Raw forest honey has a higher antioxidant potential than the common wildflower honeys.
